Interesting facts
Napanook is an elastic, aromatic, lush, intoxicating, and very successful wine. It is made from grapes from the historic Napanook site in Napa Valley and beautifully reflects its terroir. In 2018, the wine blend included three grape varieties — Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Napanook is a wine created to be consumed young, and Christian Moueix strongly recommends decanting the young wine. Nevertheless, the wine has a good structure, allowing it to be stored for 20 years.
About the Manufacturer
Dominus Estate is a French-style estate following the principles of Bordeaux winemaking. The estate is located in the renowned Napa Valley wine region in California. Special attention is paid to vineyard care here. The harvest is hand-picked, and after fermentation and aging in French oak barrels, the wine is bottled without filtration. The estate's owner, renowned French winemaker Christian Moueix, initially worked with well-known local winemakers (Chris Phelps, David Ramey, and Daniel Baron) but later completely changed the team, inviting French specialists. Now, Jean-Claude Berrouet, a famous enologist from Bordeaux, works here. His assistants are also French: winemakers Boris Champy and Jean-Marie Morès. The Napanook vineyard, where Dominus Estate is located, is considered the first vineyard planted in Napa Valley in 1866. The vineyard was previously known as Inglenook. The legendary John Daniel acquired it in 1946, and it became the home of several great wines. Daniel's daughters invited Christian Moueix to create the Dominus estate in partnership in 1982. Twelve years later, Moueix bought their shares and became the sole owner of the estate in January 1995. The winery building was designed by Swiss architects de Meuron and Herzog. The building's design is unique and organically fits into the surrounding landscape. The wines at Dominus are made exclusively from grapes grown in the Napanook vineyard. The vineyard is located in Yountville. Its special value lies in the extraordinary quality of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety, which occupies more than half of the total planting area. The remaining area is occupied by Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.
