Interesting facts
Castell d`Encús Acusp is a single-varietal wine made from Pinot Noir grapes, which are grown in vineyards located at an altitude of 1000 meters, making the winery the highest in Spain. The vineyards are surrounded by forest and receive ample sunlight. The grapes are planted in clay-limestone soils. Poor soils combined with a climate of significant temperature fluctuations yield grapes of exceptional quality. Acusp comes from the Latin word cuspis, meaning the peak of a mountain. Raúl discovered this word in the earliest texts mentioning Castell d`Encús. The Pinot Noir vineyards at Castell d`Encús are located in the Encús mountain range. Harvesting is done by hand, and the grapes are transported in small 10 kg boxes to ensure their preservation. Castell d`Encús Acusp undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrels. The wine is neither filtered nor stabilized, so sediment may appear.
