About the Manufacturer
On July 10, 1890, five Basque families united to create the "Society of High Rioja Wines," which later became known as "La Rioja Alta." The Rioja region in Spain produces some of the best and most long-lived wines in the world. La Rioja Alta owns 360 hectares of vineyards, mainly in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. The company does not produce wines of all designations every year, preferring only those that have fully developed and exhibited the best characteristics. Aging and maturation of the wines occur in French oak barrels, which add subtle spice notes to La Rioja Alta wines. In March 2002, "Decanter" magazine named La Rioja Alta the top wine house of Rioja in the 20th century.
