Canopy, "Ganadero" Mentrida DOP is an incredibly smooth dry red wine with a complex taste that is also easy to drink, made from Grenache grapes grown on the winery's sandy soils. This wine has a personality and a powerful image aimed at international markets. The label reflects one of the most recognizable icons of Spanish culture abroad – the bull, presented in an unconventional image of a ranch owner, master of his own fate. The average age of the vines grown on sandy soil reaches 45 years. The harvest is collected when the berries reach optimal ripeness. At the winery, the berries undergo cold maceration and fermentation at strictly controlled temperatures. Malolactic fermentation occurs in 500-liter oak barrels. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 3 months.
About the Manufacturer
The young winery Canopy is a project of two friends-enologists, Alfonso Chacon and Belamino Fernandez. They began realizing their dream of creating a fundamentally new wine in 2004 by searching for special vineyards where old Grenache vines and younger Syrah vines should grow. The Mentrida area in Toledo fully met these parameters. This region had not been in demand for a long time, as it left winemakers with memories of its old-fashioned, coarse wines. The Canopy vineyards are located at an altitude of 750 meters above sea level and feature granite and siliceous soils. They underwent careful selection to perfectly match the profile of the intended wines.
