Interesting facts
The unique geological and geographical conditions in the village of Penon at an altitude of 600 m above sea level provide the basis for producing an incomparable sparkling wine with distinctive terroir characteristics. The first vintage of 600 was released in 2014. Hand-harvested Chardonnay grapes are sourced only from old vines. After bottle fermentation, the sparkling wine matures on the lees for 55 months.
About the Manufacturer
The Kurtatsch winery is located in the southern part of South Tyrol. The area is characterized by a unique microclimate. Summer temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius are not uncommon, with warm autumn days alternating with cold nights. This allows producers to bring grape ripening to the "Hang Time" point, where optimal ripeness coincides with excellent acidity levels. As a result, rich, intensely fruity, full-bodied red wines and elegant, floral, aromatic white wines are produced. The vineyards grow on slopes and hilly areas at altitudes ranging from 200 to 900 m above sea level and are considered unique. Kurtatsch wines are distinguished by their exclusivity, which is inextricably linked to their origin and cannot be reproduced elsewhere. Most of the best wines in the world are grown in limestone soils. On the slope of the mountain where the Kurtatsch vineyards grow, the soils are predominantly limestone, sometimes mixed with clay, with excellent drainage. Winemakers use the most modern technologies, refrigeration equipment, stainless steel containers for controlled fermentation temperatures, new oak barrels, and traditional oak barrels. Only perfectly healthy grapes are used in production. Before bottling, the wines are carefully evaluated by tasting experts and released for sale at optimal maturity. Due to the excellent quality, Kurtatsch wines have spread among wine lovers far beyond the country's borders.
