About the Manufacturer

The history of Chateau Gazin is very long and rich. In the Middle Ages, the vineyards belonged to the order of the "Knights of Saint John in Jerusalem," where pilgrims stopped to rest. Antonin Feuillat, the mayor of Libourne, who held a high position in society, changed his main activity to winemaking instead of grain cultivation. In the early 19th century, the estate under the management of the Fabre family was at its peak of prosperity. In the late 19th century, Chateau Gazin was acquired by Mr. Louis Suval. His daughter married a representative of the Baiencour de Courcol family, which belongs to the oldest lineage of the lords of Landas from the Artois region (northern France). In 1214, King Philip Augustus of France gave the Baiencour family the nickname "Coucol" (short neck) in honor of their victory in the Battle of Bouvines. After World War II, despite the huge demand for Chateau Gazin wines, the profits from their sale did not meet the owners' expectations. Moreover, the spring frosts of 1956 caused significant damage to the vineyards. When Edouard Baiencour passed away in 1979, only one of his heirs expressed a desire to continue the family winemaking business. The estate is now managed by Nicolas and Christophe de Baiencour de Courcol. Today, Chateau Gazin occupies an area of 26 hectares, of which 24 hectares are dedicated to vineyards on the famous clay-sandy plateau of Pomerol. Charming due to the predominance of Merlot, Chateau Gazin wines provide pleasure after just a few years of aging, but in most cases, it is worth aging them for fifteen to twenty years. The estate's production reaches 100,000 bottles of wine per year.
