Interesting facts
Borgogno, Derthona DOC is a white wine produced by Giacomo Borgogno & Figli from Timorasso grapes. The berries grow on clay-limestone soils at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level. Harvesting is done manually when the grapes reach optimal ripeness, usually at the end of September. At the winery, cold maceration occurs in steel tanks for 3 days, followed by static decantation and spontaneous fermentation in concrete tanks at a temperature of 17 °C for 25 days. The wine is aged for 10 months in stainless steel tanks and 7 months in the bottle.
About the Manufacturer
The name of the Giacomo Borgogno winery first appeared in official documents in 1848, but according to family chronicles, the winery was founded by Bartolomeo Borgogno in 1671. The sacred tradition of the Giacomo Borgogno house is to leave a large part of the best vintage wines for further aging in the winery's cellars. Over the years, they acquire magnificent aromas and exceptional balanced roundness. Each bottle is carefully checked before the wine reaches the consumer. The vineyards of Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, covering a total area of 40 hectares, are located in four of the best sites of the Barolo appellation: Cannubi, Liste, Fossati, and San Pietro. The vineyards mainly grow local grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera. Despite being a small estate, the excellent quality of the wines has brought it worldwide recognition and fame. Wines from Giacomo Borgogno & Figli have been repeatedly chosen for diplomatic banquets: they were served at the celebration of the unification of Italy in 1861, as well as during the official visit of Russian Tsar Nicholas II.
