Interesting facts
The dry red wine Chateau Quinault l`Enclos is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot grapes. Since 2016, Technical Director Pierre-Olivier Clouet has decided to age the wine exclusively in 500-liter barrels, thereby reducing the surface area of wood contact with the wine and, consequently, the influence of oak on the wine's taste. The harvest is hand-picked at the peak of ripeness and carefully sorted twice: directly in the vineyard and at the winery. Fermentation takes place in neutral containers, and malolactic fermentation occurs in wooden tanks. The wine is aged in 500-liter French oak barrels, 50% of which are new (the other half is one year old) for 18 months. The aging potential of the wine is at least 10-15 years.
About the Manufacturer
Chateau Quinault l`Enclos is located in the very heart of the Libourne area, on the right bank of the Dordogne River. This area includes several communes, the most famous of which are Pomerol and Saint-Emilion. The local wines are characterized by a predominance of Merlot in the blend, while for Medoc and Graves wines, Cabernet Sauvignon is dominant. Chateau Quinault l`Enclos owns 20 hectares of vineyards near the Dordogne. Their location features a special microclimate and very favorable soil, conducive to producing high-quality grapes and wines. The vineyards are dominated by Merlot (83%), with the remaining area divided between Cabernet Franc (12%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). The average age of the vines is 45 years, but there are also the oldest in the area, planted in 1934. These old vines represent a very interesting heritage and allow for the production of complex, multifaceted wines. For a long time, the owner of the chateau was Alain Reynaud, who did much to preserve the terroir and promote the wines of Libourne. In 2008, the peculiarities of the global economy forced Reynaud to sell the chateau to Baron Frere and Bernard Arnault — chairman of the LVMH Group. A team of grape growers and winemakers from Chateau Cheval Blanc, led by the famous Pierre Lurton, was brought in to provide the vineyards of Chateau Quinault l`Enclos with the utmost care. Organic farming methods were implemented in the vineyards, and vinification was aimed at precise and elegant expression of fruitiness and preservation of soft tannins that delight the senses. The wines of the chateau, highly praised by critics, have become even more qualitative, deep, and consistent.
