Interesting facts
"Cuvee Pierre Etienne" is a complex yet harmonious dry white wine with a wide range of aromatic and flavor nuances. The wine is made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown on rich siliceous soils near the Loire River. The grapes are hand-harvested in small 16 kg boxes. After sorting, the berries undergo slow pressing. Fermentation in oak barrels in the cool cellars of Joseph Mellot, located in the heart of Sancerre, lasts for 2 months. Such prolonged fermentation and aging on the lees for 2 years allow the mineral nuances expressing the terroir to combine with the roundness of flavor. The wine "Cuvee Pierre Etienne" is created in honor of the founder of the family winemaking dynasty — Pierre Etienne Mellot and is produced only in the best years. The wine is bottled in bottles that are exact replicas of the old Sancerre bottles used at the time of the founding of the House (1513). The label design has remained unchanged since the 1930s, and each is individually numbered.
About the Manufacturer
The Mellot estate in the renowned wine region of France — Sancerre — was founded by Pierre-Etienne Mellot about 500 years ago. Mellot wines quickly gained popularity throughout France. In 1698, King Louis XIV invited César Mellot to advise him on the selection and supply of wines for the royal table. Over the years, each generation of Mellot estate owners has continuously improved production processes and passed their traditions and secrets to their children. Today, the Mellot estate is the oldest producer in the Loire Valley. Since 1984, the estate has been owned by Alexandre Mellot and his wife Catherine. They expanded the vineyard area and undertook a major renovation of the winery. The company now owns 85 hectares of vineyards in 7 areas of the Loire Valley. Special attention is paid to the development of vineyards and production in the regions of Quincy and Reuilly. Every stage of production, from grape harvesting to product shipment, is carefully monitored. In 2007, Joseph Mellot received an international quality certificate confirming compliance with environmental protection regulations. The Mellot family does much to preserve natural resources and prevent environmental pollution. In addition to its own harvest, the company also purchases grapes from neighboring producers to create its magnificent white, rosé, and red wines, as well as wonderful sparkling Crémants.
