Interesting facts
"Stein" Sauvignon is an elegant dry white wine made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in the company`s vineyards in Alto Adige at an altitude of 330-400 meters above sea level. The site has a southeast exposure and gravel-limestone soils rich in humus. The Alps protect the area from cold air masses from the north, allowing warm, humid air from Lake Garda and the Mediterranean Sea to significantly influence the local climate. The alternation of warm Mediterranean days and cool nights activates the full potential of the grape`s aromatic properties, adding an enticing spiciness to the wine. Harvesting is done by hand. The vinification process includes cold maceration in the press and fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged for about 5 months on fine lees in the same tanks.
About the Manufacturer
In 1985, two estates — Nalles (founded in 1932) and Magre-Niclara (founded in 1954) began a mutually beneficial collaboration aimed at uniting the best wine producers from the Alto Adige appellation in South Tyrol. Currently, about 140 farmers grow grapes for Nals-Margreid on 150 hectares of vineyards located at altitudes ranging from 200 to 900 meters above sea level. Protected from the north by the Alps and warmed by the southern Mediterranean sun, they differ in soil composition, vine age, and microclimate. Each area has its own characteristics that contribute to the cultivation of high-quality local grape varieties. Under the guidance of chief enologist Harald Schraffl, the staff of this small winery, armed with vast experience and new ideas, adhere to local traditions while using the latest technologies to create unique terroir wines that possess exceptional purity, distinct character, and convey the uniqueness of Alto Adige.
