Bodega Contador Predicador Rioja DOC

The history of Bodega Contador began in 1995 when winemaker and viticulturist Benjamin Romeo acquired a centuries-old cellar under the castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra (La Rioja). In 1996, he harvested his first vintage for his wine "La Cueva del Contador" and began acquiring vineyards for his winemaking project. In the following years, he continued winemaking and expanding his vineyards. In 1999, he made the first vintage of his famous wine "Contador." In 2000, convinced that his first wines were well received by the market and specialized media, Benjamin decided to dedicate himself exclusively to his personal project. In 2001, Benjamin Romeo converted the garage in his parents' house in San Vicente into a winery, thus increasing production capacity. Critic Robert Parker rated "Contador" 2004 and 2005, produced in the garage, with 100 points. This is an unprecedented case in Spain for such a high rating of local garage wines. Between 2004 and 2006, Benjamin designed his current winery project with architect Héctor Herrera. Work continued until 2008. The new modern gravity-fed winery was inaugurated on June 21, 2008, the summer solstice. The building is located at the foot of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the heart of Benjamin's vineyards. The building's terraces are planted with vegetation that harmonizes perfectly with the local flora.
