Interesting facts
"Cune" Gran Reserva is a generous, deep wine made from grapes of the Tempranillo, Mazuelo, and Graciano varieties. The harvest for this wine is hand-picked. After maceration, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in American and French oak barrels for at least 24 months. Before being released for sale, the wine is stored in the winery's cellars at a specific temperature and humidity for at least another 36 months. "Cune" is the name of the winery established in 1879, marking the beginning of the now-famous CVNE company. Cune is still located in the Rioja Alta region and is among the exemplary estates of Rioja — the world-renowned wine region of Spain.
About the Manufacturer
The wine company of Northern Spain (CVNE), founded in 1879 by brothers Raimundo and Eusebio Real de Asua, is considered the oldest winery in Spain. Eusebio's poor health, which led his doctor to recommend a dry climate, was the reason the brothers decided to settle in the province. Choosing to live in the town of Haro, located in Rioja Alta, they quickly recognized the high potential of the region for winemaking and decided to engage in this business. The first wine "Cune," presented by CVNE, bore the name of the winery. It appeared at a time when French vineyards were recovering from the phylloxera epidemic, and the shortage of famous French wines in the market was compensated by Spanish winemakers. The second iconic wine for the company was "Monopole," offered to consumers in 1915. This wine, which immediately became a white classic of Rioja, is today the oldest brand of Spanish white wine. No less recognition was received by the wine "Imperial." Introduced in 1920, it was made from indigenous Spanish grape varieties grown in the estate's own vineyards and also became a classic of Rioja. Today, CVNE is a family company managed by representatives of the fifth generation of the dynasty. It ranks among the top five best wineries in Rioja, owning up to 600 hectares of vineyards and purchasing about 50% of the grapes from other estates. Remaining true to traditions, the leaders of CVNE have always welcomed an innovative approach to work in the vineyards and wineries, while placing special emphasis on product quality. For Spaniards, CVNE is one of the most recognized brands of Rioja, associated with premium quality wines.
