Interesting facts
"Les 2 Monardes" is the symbolic cuvée of the estate, which wonderfully demonstrates the complementarity of the two main grape varieties of the Rhône Valley: Grenache and Syrah. They are complemented by a small proportion of Cinsault and Mourvèdre, which together account for no more than 10% of the blend. The harvest is hand-picked from 45-year-old vines grown using organic methods. The fruits are carefully sorted on a sorting table and separated from the stems. Vinification includes fermentation with natural yeasts and maceration for 15-20 days with regular punching down. Aging takes place in neutral tanks (50%) and 600-liter oak barrels (50%) for 18 months. Before bottling, the wine is neither fined nor filtered. The addition of sulfur dioxide is minimized. "Les 2 Monardes" can be enjoyed young or aged for at least 8 years.
About the Manufacturer
In 1987, the Vach family purchased Domaine La Monardiere from the Monard family and immediately began restoring the buildings and vineyards. Christian Vach "took the bull by the horns" and returned the estate's wines to the top of Vacqueyras. He paid great attention to soil management and renovated the winery to isolate two separate cellars (one strictly for barrels). Initially, the wines were sold only to estate guests, but over time, the fame of Domaine La Monardiere spread beyond the region, and today this name is recognized and loved in many countries. All harvests are hand-picked, although this is not a requirement of the appellation and is quite rare in Vacqueyras. Since 2007, all vineyards have been managed organically, which was confirmed by a special certificate in 2010. The family owns a total of 22 hectares, of which 18 are in Vacqueyras and 4 hectares in Vaucluse. Many operations at the estate are done by hand, and the use of sulfur dioxide is minimized. In recent years, the estate has been managed by Christian's son, Damien, who preserves his father's legacy and pays special attention to the environment.
