Interesting facts
Chateau d`Hanteillan is an exquisite blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines reaches 30 years. The grapes are harvested at the optimal moment of ripeness through daily tastings of the grapes. Late mechanical harvesting followed by sorting on the table is carried out by a team of 8 people. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled concrete tanks and stainless steel tanks. During vinification, techniques such as pumping over, extended maceration, and micro-oxygenation under the cap are practiced, with gentle extraction at the beginning and end of fermentation (more intensive in the middle). No crushing and artificial yeasts are used: only local flora is employed. Alcoholic fermentation occurs under strict temperature control of 24-28 °C. Maceration at 30 °C lasts up to 3 weeks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new barrels and tanks. The wine is aged for 14 to 16 months in new (40%) and one-year-old barrels.
About the Manufacturer
Chateau d`Hanteillan is a historic estate in the Upper Medoc, mentioned in the bull of Pope Alexander III in the 12th century among the assets of the Verthé Abbey. The estate has passed through the hands of numerous bourgeois families, and in 1972 it came under the management of the Mathieu-Blasco family, entrepreneurs of Limousin origin, breeders, industrial leaders, and wine lovers. The castle is ideally located between the towns of Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, on a limestone plateau. The vineyard of the Chateau covers 67 hectares planted on clay-limestone soils with gravel and marl. It neighbors some of the most famous Grand Cru in the region. The vineyard undergoes careful and comprehensive work to enhance its richness and reveal its full potential. Wise advice from Stéphane Derenoncourt greatly aids in achieving this goal. To optimize impact, all work is carried out under the ISO 14001 standard, which is environmentally friendly. The estate's goal is to limit yield to 45 hectoliters per hectare to preserve all the characteristics of the terroir in the wines.
