Interesting facts
The red wine Chateau Cadet-Bon is the winery's main offering. It is made from selected Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes harvested from 40-year-old vines. The grapes are hand-picked and carefully sorted. Vinification takes place in small stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. For malolactic fermentation and aging, the wine is aged from 12 to 18 months (depending on the vintage) in French oak barrels (33% new).
About the Manufacturer
The Cadet-Bon family has been known in the Saint-Émilion region since the 14th century. Many of its members held leading positions in local government. It was this dynasty that laid the foundations of winemaking and made it a popular activity among local landowners. Centuries and descendants passed, new components were added to the name and lands, but one thing remained unchanged over all this time — loyalty to traditions and the high quality of Cadet-Bon wines. In 1987, the ancient winery and wine cellar, which can hold more than 150,000 liters of wine, were completely renovated. In the same year, a new emblem was developed, with which the wines of Chateau Cadet-Bon are now associated. It depicts a fountain and the god Dionysus playing the flute. This symbol was taken from Homer's poem dedicated to Dionysus, captured by sea robbers. Flooding the deck with sweet wine and weaving grapevines around all the rigging and sails, he turned into a ferocious lion and created a formidable bear to tear his offenders to pieces. Seeing this, the sailors preferred to jump into the sea, where they turned into dolphins. Since December 2001, Chateau Cadet-Bon has belonged to Guy and Mylène Richard, who invited the famous winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt to collaborate as a consultant.
