Interesting facts
"Manon" is a magnificent white Burgundy wine named by Yann Durieux after his beloved daughter Manon, who was born when Yann and his wife Kristela had already restored 3 hectares of family vineyards and the Recrue des Sens winery. The Chardonnay grapes used for its production are grown in the commune of Messanges, east of Saint-Georges, on a clay-limestone soil plot located on a southeast slope. The harvest is hand-picked. Vinification occurs with minimal intervention in the natural process. After fermentation with natural yeast cultures in steel tanks, the wine is aged in oak barrels (25% new) for 2 years. Previously, the wine was aged in cubic steel tanks, but since 2014, Yann has switched to barrel aging for this cuvée. No sulfur is used in the winemaking process. The peak maturity of the 2020 vintage will be from 2024 to 2030. It is recommended to decant for at least an hour before consumption.
About the Manufacturer
Yann Durieux quickly gained attention as a leading producer of natural and biodynamic wines in Burgundy. With his long dreadlocks and tousled beard, one might mistake Durieux for a rock band frontman or a hippie. But do not be misled: behind the unconventional appearance lies a meticulous, determined, hardworking perfectionist, a pure talent, a born wine fundamentalist. His only passion in life is winemaking. Yann was born into a winemaking family on the outskirts of Nuits-Saint-Georges. He vinified his first wine at the age of 13. From the very beginning, Yann realized he wanted to break free from the ordinary, so he left home. After working for over 10 years in two great biodynamic estates in Burgundy — Domaine Prieure-Roch and Domaine Des Vignes Du Maynes, the young winemaker decided it was time to open his own winery. Thus, in 2010, Yann Durieux and his wife Kristela restored 3 hectares of family vineyards and the Recrue des Sens winery, which was then in a difficult situation. Here, their daughter Manon was born, and today one of Yann's cuvées bears her name. In creating his estate, located around the commune of Messanges, Yann also revived several plots north of Côte de Nuits and soon rented several vineyards to meet growing demand. The philosophy of this passionate winemaker is simple: only natural winemaking, organic and biodynamic cultivation methods.
