Chateau Chasse Spleen Blanc de Chasse-Spleen Bordeaux AOC

The name Chasse-Spleen means "to chase away melancholy" — who actually christened the wine from Moulis-en-Médoc with such a name? Was it the English poet Lord Byron on his way to Spain? Or perhaps the Frenchman Charles Baudelaire on vacation with his friend Odilon Redon, one of the neighbors of the Château and the illustrator of "Spleen et Ideal"? Nevertheless, this fact speaks of the merits of the Moulis region. If the wine had been made elsewhere, perhaps these two people would have had a glass and continued their journey. Such an inspiring and well-known name has been bestowed upon a few vineyards. Fortunately, Madame Castaing, who owned the estate at the time, heeded one of these famous poets and named the estate Château Chasse-Spleen. Later, she inherited several of the best plots in Grand Poujeaux, which, unfortunately, were not classified in 1855. However, in 1932, with the introduction of a new classification, Chateau Chasse-Spleen wines were awarded the status of Grand Cru Exceptionnel. Chateau Chasse-Spleen owns 80 hectares of vineyards, on which such varieties as Cabernet Sauvignon (73%), Merlot (20%) and Petit Verdot (7%) grow. Today, the grand vin — Chateau Chasse-Spleen — is produced here, as well as two second wines — L`Ermitage de Chasse-Spleen and l`Oratoire de Chasse-Spleen.
