Interesting facts
Pommard "Les Vieilles Vignes" is a red dry wine made from Pinot Noir grapes grown on vineyards in the Pommard appellation. The berries are harvested from 65-year-old vines grown on clay-limestone soils with a large amount of gravel. After manual harvesting, the grapes are sent to the winery and carefully sorted. Alcoholic fermentation takes 3 weeks. The wine is aged for 14 months in small French oak barrels, 15% of which are new. The wine is not filtered before bottling.
About the Manufacturer
Vincent Girardin represents the 11th generation of the Girardin family, known for its stunning wines since the 17th century. Vincent Girardin and his wife Véronique, not permanently residing in the Côte d'Or, managed to create a name for their domaine. Not so long ago, they founded a négociant firm that buys not wine or must, but only high-quality grapes. The success of Girardin's wines largely depends on the conditions of their creation. Thus, the grape harvest is always picked by hand and undergoes double sorting directly during harvest and at the winery. For the purity of grape juice, preserving its aroma and taste, Girardin's production uses pneumatic presses with low pressure, allowing a more gentle pressing of the berries, which gives less sediment. Only oak barrels are used for aging wines, and the filtration system is used only for white wines. Girardin's wines are in no way inferior to their predecessors: the whites are still aristocratic, pure and delicate, while the reds are distinguished by depth, density and a rich fruity taste. All this allows the talented Girardin to impress with a wide range of his creations. The excellent price-quality ratio has made his wines desirable in the restaurant world. The demand for Vincent Girardin wines is growing very quickly, because these are truly successful, high-quality wines. The most important distinguishing feature of this firm is its amazing collection of wines from various appellations, including little-known ones. The Grand and Premier Cru wines are comparable in quality to the wines of the best négociant houses and domains of Burgundy.
