Interesting facts

"Sito Moresco" is an excellent wine with a rich fruity taste and a deep, clean aroma. In "Sito Moresco", the complexity and longevity of Nebbiolo beautifully combine with the elegance and maturity of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is enjoyable when young, but it does not lose its appeal with age. The first vintage of "Sito Moresco" was released in 1982. The name "Sito Moresco" (literally "Moresco Place") was given to the wine in honor of the previous owner of one of the vineyards in Pajore (Treiso). The grapes for the wine are mainly harvested in Barbaresco and Treiso, with some fruit coming from vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba (Barolo). Each grape variety undergoes separate fermentation with grape skins in stainless steel containers for 2 weeks at a constant temperature. Blending occurs only after malolactic fermentation is complete. The wine is aged for 19 months in barriques and another 9 months in bottles. The aging potential of the wine is 5-7 years. The label of "Sito Moresco" features beautiful pheasants that inhabit the forests adjacent to the Gaja vineyards.

About the Manufacturer

The Gaja brand was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja, the great-grandfather of the current owner Angelo Gaja, and has been owned by the Gaja family for five generations. Today, Gaja Winery owns vineyards totaling 250 hectares, located in the provinces of Tuscany and Piedmont. Angelo Gaja began working in the family business in 1961 after completing his education at the Enological Institute of Alba and the University of Montpellier (later obtaining a degree in economics from the University of Turin). Angelo has visited France several times and, inspired by modern and traditional techniques of French winemakers, began applying the acquired experience in the production of his own wines. His magnetism, charm, and poetic reflections on the nature of wine make Angelo Gaja one of the most respected and beloved figures in the Italian wine industry. In 2011, "Wine Spectator" named Angelo Gaja one of the best winemakers in the history of Piedmont and Tuscany.
