Tenuta di Trinoro Le Cupole Toscana IGT

Andrea Franchetti founded Tenuta di Trinoro in 1992 with the goal of making the best wine in Italy. As a wine merchant, he was captivated by the great wines of the right bank of Bordeaux. At his winery, he wanted to replicate the experience of those wines while preserving Italian traditions. After several years of searching, Franchetti found the perfect location for his project near the village of Sarteano in southeastern Tuscany. Located high on a hill overlooking the Orcia River, Tenuta di Trinoro is protected from maritime influences from the west by Mount Amiata and from inland fogs from the east by Mount Cetona. The limestone soils of the vineyards are rich in clay and gravel mix. The planting of vines began in 1992 with international varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, as well as a small proportion of the Italian grape Cesanese d'Affile. Franchetti produced two wines — "Tenuta di Trinoro", a blend of Cabernet Franc (80%) with a portion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, and "Palazzo", created from an equal blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. These fabulous wines are marked by excellent structure and concentration, layered flavors with notes of ripe, voluminous fruits and spices that give the wines an exotic character. Currently, "Palazzo" is no longer produced, and the Tenuta di Trinoro wine line has introduced "Le Cupole" — a blend of all four main cultivated varieties.
