Interesting facts
Schloss Gobelsburg, Blanc de Blancs Brut is a white dry sparkling wine made from three grape varieties — Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, and Chardonnay, each grape variety is grown in a specific area in the Kamptal region. The grapes are hand-harvested in small baskets and immediately sent for sorting and pressing. Fermentation occurs in steel containers at controlled temperatures. After 6 months of fermentation in oak barrels, the wine must is bottled for secondary fermentation. The wine is then aged for three years, undergoing yeast fermentation, which gives it a creamy texture. The wine bottles filled with the sparkling drink are carefully turned by hand.
About the Manufacturer
The vineyards that today belong to the Schloss Gobelsburg winery were planted in 1171 by Cistercian monks from the Zwettl monastery. After a fire at the Kammern winery in 1786, they were transferred to Schloss Gobelsburg. Since 1996, the winery has been managed by Michael and Eva Moosbrugger. The estate owns 60 hectares of some of the best vineyards in Austria, located on the Heiligenstein and Gaisberg terraces, as well as between two hills in the valley of the town of Grub. Each vineyard has unique soil properties and microclimates. The most important varieties for the estate are Grüner Veltliner (50%) and Riesling (25%), which have proven to be the most suitable for the structure of the surrounding soil. Low yields and strict selection using sorting tables ensure a high level of quality of the grapes and the wines produced from them. In 2006, Michael Moosbrugger was named the best winemaker in Austria by the wine publication "Falstaff", and he has also repeatedly won awards for the best "Grüner Veltliner" and other wines.
