In 1995, two winemaking families — the famous Frescobaldi from Tuscany and Mondavi from America — decided to join forces and create the joint venture Luce della Vite in the Montalcino area. The innovative approach and modern technologies of one of the leaders in the California wine market — the Mondavi family — combined with the centuries-old winemaking experience and traditional vision of the winemaking process of the Frescobaldi family. Both families set out to create one of Italy's greatest wines. It all began with blending wines from the Frescobaldi estate from the 1993 and 1994 vintages. According to the traditions of the Brunello di Montalcino area, wines were to be made from 100% Sangiovese, but the winemakers of the estate decided to combine the structure of Sangiovese with the roundness of Merlot, thus "Luce" was born — a "Super Tuscan" wine that entered the elite of the world wine industry. In addition to this remarkable wine, the estate also produces two other well-known wines: "Lucente", which combines Sangiovese and Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon, and "Luce Brunello", made in the best traditions of the region from 100% Sangiovese, as well as a line of wines "Danzate", representing four regions of Italy, and exquisite grappas.
