Interesting facts
"Camarcanda" is the flagship wine of the Ca Marcanda estate, owned by the renowned Italian winemaker Angelo Gaja. This expressive, harmonious wine has a characteristic fruity flavor, a long, pleasant finish, and a complex, rich aroma. The wine is named after the Ca Marcanda estate, which translates to "house of long negotiations". Angelo Gaja experienced the truth of this statement firsthand, as he spent considerable time shuttling between Piedmont and Tuscany, persuading the previous owner of the estate to sell it. Each trip ended in disappointment and refusal. One night, lying in bed, Angelo's wife whispered, "I know... it's some kind of Ca Marcanda". And so, in 1996, after long negotiations, Angelo Gaja became the proud owner of the estate, which he named Ca Marcanda. The vineyards of the Ca Marcanda estate are located in the Castagneto Carducci area, in Bolgheri. The grapes for the "Camarcanda" wine are grown on rich limestone soil known as "terre bianche" ("white earth"), ideal for long-lived wines. After harvesting the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc varieties, the grapes of each variety are fermented separately. Blending occurs after malolactic fermentation, and then the wine is poured into oak barrels, where it is aged for 18 months. Further aging takes place in bottles for 6-12 months. About the Manufacturer
The Gaja brand was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja, the great-grandfather of the current owner Angelo Gaja, and has been in the Gaja family for five generations. Today, Gaja Winery owns vineyards covering a total area of 250 hectares, located in the provinces of Tuscany and Piedmont. Angelo Gaja began his work in the family business in 1961, after completing his education at the Oenological Institute of Alba and the University of Montpellier (later obtaining a degree in economics from the University of Turin). Angelo has visited France several times and, inspired by the modern and traditional techniques of French winemakers, began applying the acquired experience in the production of his own wines. His magnetism, charm, and poetic reflections on the nature of wine make Angelo Gaja one of the most respected and beloved figures in the Italian wine industry. In 2011, "Wine Spectator" named Angelo Gaja one of the best winemakers in the history of Piedmont and Tuscany.
