Interesting facts
Barolo "Liste" is a red dry wine produced from one of the famous Barolo vineyards — Liste. The site is particularly interesting due to its very ancient origin: Liste was formed about 11 million years ago as a result of the erosion of overlying layers of earth. The outcome of geological processes is a unique mineral composition that significantly differs from other Barolo soils. The complex of micro and macroelements inherent to Liste provides the future wines with characteristic complexity and aging potential. The exposure of the vineyards is southern; the elevation above sea level varies from 33 to 270 meters. The soils are limestone-clay; the vine density is 4000 plants per hectare. The harvest in 2018 was conducted from October 16 to 24. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in large concrete tanks at temperatures of 22-28 °C for 15 days. Maceration with cap immersion occurs in concrete tanks for 30 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. In spring, the wine is transferred to large Slavonian oak barrels for further aging for 2 years and 8 months.
About the Manufacturer
The name of the Giacomo Borgogno winery was first mentioned in official documents in 1848, but according to family chronicles, the winery was founded by Bartolomeo Borgogno in 1671. The sacred tradition of the Giacomo Borgogno house is to leave a large portion of the best vintage wines for further aging in the winery's cellars. Over the years, they acquire magnificent aroma and exceptional balanced roundness. Each bottle is carefully checked before the wine reaches the consumer. The vineyards of Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, covering a total area of 40 hectares, are located on four of the best sites of the Barolo appellation: Cannubi, Liste, Fossati, and San Pietro. The vineyards primarily grow local grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera. Despite being a small estate, the excellent quality of the wines has brought it worldwide recognition and fame. Wines from Giacomo Borgogno & Figli have repeatedly been chosen for diplomatic banquets: they were served at the celebration of the unification of Italy in 1861, as well as during the official visit of Russian Tsar Nicholas II.
