Interesting facts

Chateau La Fleur-Petrus is an elegant classic Bordeaux wine capable of aging for decades, honing its already exquisite style. Since the 1998 vintage, the quality of the wine has improved each year, increasing richness, depth, and fullness of flavor. The grapes for the wine are hand-harvested, and fermentation takes place in concrete tanks, which is standard for both Moueix wines and the appellation as a whole. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 18-20 months in oak barrels, some of which are new. In 2017, some areas of Bordeaux recorded one of the earliest harvest dates. Heat and low rainfall accelerated grape ripening, while April frosts devastated vineyards in almost all other regions of France, except for the left bank of Médoc, surrounded by water. The right bank appellations of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol were particularly hard hit. In some areas, yields dropped by up to 50%, but the remaining grapes were of very high quality.

About the Manufacturer

The winery Chateau La Fleur-Petrus is located in the commune of Pomerol and takes its name from its closest neighbors — Petrus and Chateau Lafleur. In 1953, this winery was purchased by Jean-Pierre Moueix. In 1994, after acquiring neighboring vineyards in Chateau Le Gay, the estate's area expanded to 36 acres, 80% of which is planted with Merlot grapes, and 20% with Cabernet Franc. Along with the vineyards, an ancient house dated 1782 was acquired, which was subsequently restored, and a new cellar was built for creating the new assemblage of wine Chateau La Fleur-Petrus with the addition of Cabernet Franc. The names Jean-Pierre and Christian Moueix are now practically synonymous with Pomerol. This family has had a tremendous influence on the entire appellation. Most of the best châteaux in Pomerol are owned or managed by Jean-Pierre Moueix's company. Moreover, it is thanks to this winemaker that Pomerol became known worldwide, and its wines stand alongside the great Médoc.
