Interesting facts

Intense, charming Marques de Caceres, Crianza wine is produced from selected grapes of Tempranillo, Grenache, and Graciano, grown on 15-25 year old vines in the Rioja Alta (85%) and Rioja Alavesa (15%) regions. The soils of the vineyards are predominantly clay-carbonate, with iron-rich soil predominating in Rioja Alta and a significant amount of limestone in Rioja Alavesa. The harvest is collected exclusively by hand when the berries of each variety on each plot reach optimal ripeness. Stems are removed with special care. Alcoholic fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Maceration on the skins lasts up to 20 days to extract color, aroma, and tannic structure. Malolactic fermentation is conducted in new French oak barrels and in stainless steel tanks depending on the batch of grapes and plot. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in barrels made of French (60%) and American oak (40%), 25% of which are new, 25% are second fill, and 50% are third and fourth fill, for 12 months. Every 6 months, the wine is racked from one barrel to another, discarding the sediment. The wine is then bottled and left to mature for at least another 12 months in the winery's cellars.

About the Manufacturer

Marques de Caceres is one of the bright examples of the modern winemaking school of Rioja. A great friend of the winery owner Enrique Forman, the Marquis de Caceres, a descendant of the ancient aristocratic family Vicente Noguera y Espinosa de los Monteros, gave his resonant name to this wine house. The Forman family began winemaking in the first half of the 20th century. During the Civil War, they emigrated to France, where Enrique Forman learned the basics of winemaking. In the early 1950s, he acquired the estates Chateau Camensac and Chateau Larose Trintaudon in Bordeaux, where Enrique brilliantly applied his acquired knowledge and began producing high-quality wines. In the 1960s, the Formans returned to Spain and bought vineyards in the Rioja Alta region. The winery began creating wines in the traditional Bordeaux style. The second person behind the company's origins, Emile Peynaud, is a renowned French enologist whose works on winemaking and tasting are considered classics of winemaking. In 1992, his student Michel Rolland replaced Professor Peynaud and continued to implement his works in practice. Currently, the processing capacity of the winery is fully loaded: the winery receives harvest from more than 2000 hectares, which accounts for 4% of the total yield of Rioja vineyards. In certain years, sales volume reached 10 million bottles of wine. A significant portion of the production is exported: Marques de Caceres wines can be purchased in 89 countries worldwide. The company is renowned for its aromatic white wines, but the main pride of Marques de Caceres lies in its red wines, which are characterized by a delicate, moderately extractive aroma that develops into an extraordinarily complex bouquet over the years. Since the mid-1990s, the bodega has begun producing a line of wines called "Alta expression," which translates to "especially expressive." These top wines, made in the most successful vintage years, most vividly embody the motto of Marques de Caceres: "Surpass us in perfection!" Marques de Caceres wines are often referred to as "the most French of Spanish wines." A recent analysis of the Spanish wine market showed that Marques de Caceres is the most recognized brand of high-quality Rioja wines in the world.
