Interesting facts
At the "El Esquilon" vineyard, which spans 1.2 hectares, Listán Negro has been cultivated for over 80 years and Tinta del País for 15 years. It is located at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level and yields low harvests due to the high level of volcanic rock covering its soils. However, this endows the wine from its harvest, "El Esquilon", Valle de la Orotava DO, with strength and complexity. The grapes are crushed without pressing and fermented in open concrete tanks at a controlled temperature of 28 °C for 14 days. For aging, the wine is placed in oak barrels, where it spends 14 months, and is bottled without filtration.
About the Manufacturer
Descending the steep slope of volcanic stones in the municipality of Orotava, illuminated by the equatorial sun and caressed by humid trade winds, one can reach the vineyards of Suertes del Marques. The temperament of its owner, Jonathan Garcia Lima, and the winemaking skill of Luis Sibra ensure that the land speaks through exquisite wines. Their taste is vibrant and distinctly mineral. In just a few years since its founding in 2006, the winery Suertes del Marques has become one of the most renowned producers in Tenerife. Nine hectares of vines are divided into several plots located at varying altitudes from 250 to 700 meters and with different exposures. The slope of each plot is quite steep (17-38 degrees), so most of the work in the vineyards is done by hand. The oldest plantings, the pride of the company, are 100-year-old vines of Listán Negro, Listán Blanco, and Pedro Ximénez.
