Interesting facts
"El Recio" is a magnificent wine from the Spanish estate Matsu, made from Tempranillo grapes harvested from the oldest vineyards in the Toro region. The 90-year-old vines are cultivated using biodynamic methods, which three generations of master winemakers have held sacred and supported. The wine boasts an intense fruity aroma, a luxurious taste, and an excellent price-quality ratio. Tempranillo for the wine is exclusively hand-picked in the first fifteen days of October and delivered to the winery in small boxes. The vineyards are located in the Toro region, named after the eponymous medieval city, which has preserved its unique culture and picturesque architectural heritage to this day. Toro wines are referred to as "black gold" because their color is powerful, dark, and almost black. Fermentation of the must takes place in stainless steel tanks for 3 weeks. After this, the must undergoes malolactic fermentation in second-use French and Eastern European oak barrels and aging in the same barrels for 14 months. To allow enthusiasts to fully appreciate the natural characteristics of the wine, it is neither filtered nor fined before bottling. The wine label "El Recio," which translates to "the tough guy," features a portrait of the winery owner's father. The winery's collection also includes wines with images of the grandson and grandfather, symbolizing youth and wisdom. Each photograph of the male winemakers from three different generations conveys the specific character of the particular wine.
About the Manufacturer
Matsu, in Japanese, means "to wait." This is not just a word; it is a concept that best defines the company's philosophy and inspires the winemakers. Respect for nature, the ability to wait for the right moment, and homage to the people who have dedicated their lives to viticulture and winemaking are the fundamental ideas that inspired the winemakers to create the wine collection. In this regard, the bottle labels feature three generations of the estate's winemakers, symbolizing youth, maturity, and wisdom, inherent in each of us at different stages of life. All generations of Matsu winemakers support exclusively organic farming methods and are proud to use only biodynamic viticultural techniques. Before beginning their journey to the consumer, the wines undergo the strictest quality control, guaranteeing the consumer good taste and aroma characteristics.
