Interesting facts
The dry red wine "Campo Viejo" Gran Reserva is made from Tempranillo and Graciano grapes with a small addition of Mazuelo. Grown on the fertile soils of the Rioja region, which has ideal conditions for ripening, the grapes of these varieties have a unique taste and aroma. Only hand-picked grapes are used to make the wine. Maceration lasts 20 days, and subsequent fermentation takes place in special stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of approximately 28 ºC. Aging for 2 years in barrels made from French (80%) and American (20%) oak imparts aromas of spices and vanilla to the wine. After bottling, the wine spends at least 3 more years in the winery's cellars.
About the Manufacturer
The Campo Viejo winery is built to the latest standards, with special attention to environmental protection, in full harmony with the surrounding landscape. The ripening process of the grapes is meticulously controlled, taking into account instructions for cultivation and vine care created specifically for each plot. At the winery, despite being equipped with the most advanced equipment, traditional production methods are preferred. For example, during vinification, the juice for the wines is obtained only under the weight of the grapes themselves, without using mechanical presses. The wine is aged for a long time in French and American oak barrels. The high quality control of wine in the Rioja region allows producers to use and display the DOC—"Denominación de Origen Calificada"—on the label, which indicates the highest quality of the wine. Unsurprisingly, Campo Viejo's products are award-winning. In addition to the main Campo Viejo line, the winery also produces other brands: "Alcorta" and "Aspilikueto." Currently, the brand "Campo Viejo" is owned by the French giant Pernod Ricard, which also owns whisky brands "Jameson" and "Chivas Regal," tequila "Olmecca," cognacs "Martell" and "Biscuit," gin "Beefeater," wine "Bracott," champagne "Perrier Jouet," and other brands.
