Interesting facts
"Turriga", 2018 is a delightful vintage of a wonderful wine, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018. This flagship wine from Argiolas is considered by many to be the best red wine of Sardinia. In 1991, "Turriga" became one of the first bottled wines exported from the island. "Turriga" has a 100% Sardinian soul — a famous blend of four indigenous grape varieties: Cannonau, Carignano, Bovale Sardo, and Malvasia Nera, which was once created by the renowned enologist Giacomo Tachis, and today is continued by Tachis's "heir" — Mariano Murru, the technical director and enologist of the Argiolas winery. The DNA of this exceptional wine seems as simple as it is perfect: the base of Cannonau provides structure, Carignano adds roundness and fullness, Bovale contributes richness of fruit tones, and Malvasia provides a balanced portion of tannins. The grapes for the wine are grown on the namesake "Turriga" vineyard at an altitude of 230 meters above sea level. It has a southeast exposure and limestone soil with gravel and stones. The vines in the plot were planted in 1975. The grape harvest occurs in September-October, hand-picked in the early morning hours by the most qualified personnel. After careful sorting, the berries undergo maceration for 16-18 days, allowing the wine to achieve good balance even at a young age. The fermentation of the wine is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 28-32 °C. The wine is then aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels and 12 months in bottles. As a result of this unique technology, the magnificent wine "Turriga" is born. The 2018 vintage will age beautifully for at least another 24 years, until 2042.
