Boggina C Petrolo

The name Fattoria Petrolo comes from the name of the country villa of one of the consuls of the Roman Empire, which was previously located on the site of the castle. Today, almost nothing remains of it except for the partially ruined fortress tower Galatrona, depicted on the estate's wine labels. The Petrolo estate, long reserved a place in the pantheon of cult producers in Tuscany, is a flagship and locomotive of the entire Val d'Arno area. Once, its vineyards were part of the ancient feudal estate of Galatrona. These lands were listed in the 18th century as one of the four best areas in Tuscany for vine cultivation. Its modern triumph is owed to the current owner Luca Sanjust. Thanks to him, in 1994, Galatrona, a 100% Merlot from late-harvest grapes, was born. Galatrona immediately entered the pantheon of super Tuscan Italian varietal Merlots and became one of Italy's favorites in export markets. James Suckling, one of the first wine critics to recognize the potential of Galatrona, compares this iconic wine to the legendary Le Pin from Pomerol: both cuvées combine exceptional concentration, superb tannin structure, and refinement, but are positioned as the most attractive priced Sangiovese and are always available on the market in a vertical lineup.
