Interesting facts
Donnafugata, "Cuordilava" Etna Rosso DOC is a dry red wine crafted in collaboration with the Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. It is produced from Nerello Mascalese grapes grown on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. The harvest is done manually with grape selection directly in the vineyard, placing the bunches in small crates. Fermentation and subsequent maceration on the skins occur in stainless steel tanks at 25 °C and last for 10-12 days. The wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barriques. Before release, it is further aged in the winery's cellars for 30 months. The wine has an aging potential of 10 years.
About the Manufacturer
In Italian, the name Donnafugata translates to "the runaway woman." Legend has it that Queen Maria Carolina fled Naples and found refuge in the town of Santa Margherita Belice, in a palace under a starry sky. This event is also the inspiration for the image of a woman with flowing hair featured on many of the estate's labels. The Rallo dynasty has been producing the finest Sicilian wines for 150 years. Based on this family tradition, a more modern company, Donnafugata, was established. In this Sicilian family, a festive atmosphere always prevails. During the harvest, Donnafugata organizes a night music festival in the vineyards. Most of the vineyards are located in southeastern Sicily, in the Contessa Entellina area. Grapes at Donnafugata are harvested at night; the estate uses solar energy, which is converted into electricity by solar panels. The company's website, considered one of the best among Italian winemakers, is also worthy of special attention!
