Interesting facts
"Desiderio", 2019 is a magnificent, elastic, and very characteristic biodynamic Merlot from the Cortona region. The 2019 season was an excellent year for winemakers. Warm weather, although not dry, provided a backdrop for significant production in terms of quantity and quality. With sufficient rainfall, work in the vineyards never ceased, and the grapes received great attention. The harvest was hand-picked in early September. After fermentation using natural local yeasts in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, the wine was aged in 225-liter oak barrels for 18 months. The wine is named after a majestic bull named Desiderio, the largest in Tuscany at the time, who lived at the Le Capecine estate in the late 19th century.
About the Manufacturer
The history of Avignonesi began in the second half of the 16th century when the beautiful Palazzo Avignonesi was built in Montepulciano according to the designs of architect Jacopo Barozzi. In its cellars, barrels of "Vino Nobile" wine belonging to the Avignonesi family were stored. "Quality is created by people: it is perfected through experience, dreams, and dedication to the craft," — these words encapsulate the philosophy of the Avignonesi Wine House, which has centuries of experience behind it and has realized its dream of producing high-quality wines that celebrate its region. Several centuries later, in 1974, significant changes occurred in the company — the management of the winery passed to three brothers Falvo, who transformed Avignonesi into a strong player in the Italian wine market and became one of the largest landowners in the region with over 250 hectares of holdings, of which 225 hectares were dedicated to vineyards. The main activity of Avignonesi is focused on producing powerful red wines "Vino Nobile", which brought fame to the wine house. Avignonesi also produces a small volume of dessert wine "Vin Santo" — one of the best in its class. In addition to traditional wines from the Montalcino region, the company produces super Tuscan wines: "50 & 50" from Sangiovese and Merlot, as well as white wine "Il Marzocco" from Chardonnay. Avignonesi also produces excellent grappa and "Extra Vergin" olive oil, harvested from its own olive groves.
