Interesting facts
Kurtatsch Brenntal Merlot Riserva Sudtirol-Alto Adige DOC is produced from Merlot grapes that were introduced to the Alto Adige region 130 years ago. The grapes grow on the hilly "Brenntal" site, located at an altitude of 220-250 meters above sea level. The soils are clayey; the yield of the vines does not exceed 5500 kg/ha per year. Temperature-controlled fermentation is carried out in rotating stainless steel tanks, and aging occurs in French barriques (50% of which are new) for 15 months, followed by blending in large oak barrels and a minimum of 1 year of bottle aging in the winery's cellars. The wine has a storage potential of 15 years.
About the Manufacturer
The Kurtatsch winery is located in the southern part of South Tyrol. The area is characterized by a unique microclimate. Summer temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius are not uncommon, and warm autumn days alternate with cold nights. This allows producers to bring grape ripening to the "Hang Time" point, where optimal ripeness coincides with excellent acidity levels. Such grapes yield rich, intensely fruity, full-bodied red wines and elegant, floral, aromatic white wines. The estate's vineyards are located on slopes and hills at altitudes ranging from 200 to 900 meters above sea level and are considered unique. Kurtatsch wines are distinguished by their uniqueness, which is inextricably linked to their origin and cannot be reproduced elsewhere. Most of the world's best wines are made from grapes grown in limestone soils. On the mountainside where Kurtatsch vineyards grow, the soils have excellent drainage, predominantly limestone, occasionally mixed with clay. Winemakers employ the most modern technologies: refrigeration equipment, stainless steel tanks with fermentation temperature control sensors, and new oak barrels for aging. Only perfectly healthy grapes are used in wine production. Before bottling, the wines are carefully evaluated by expert tasters. Due to the excellent quality, Kurtatsch wines have become popular among wine lovers far beyond the country's borders.
