About the Manufacturer

The history of the Vietti winery dates back to the 19th century, but it was only in the early 20th century that the winery began bottling wine. In 1919, Mario Vietti produced the first wines, selling most of his production in Italy. His most significant achievement was transforming a large family farm into a winery. In 1952, Alfredo Currado (husband of Luciana, Mario's daughter) continued producing high-quality wines from his own vineyards as well as purchased grapes. The Vietti winery grew to become one of the best wine producers in Piedmont and was one of the first to export its wines to the USA. Alfredo was the first to produce wines from single crus. At that time, this concept was radical; nowadays, almost every winemaker creates Barolo and Barbaresco from a single vineyard. Alfredo is also known as the "father of Arneis" because in 1967 he dedicated much time to researching and understanding this almost forgotten variety. Today, the most famous white wine from the Roero region is made from Arneis grapes. This variety is now even grown on the west coast of the United States. Since 1974, some Vietti wines have been adorned with designer works. Each such work was used only once — for a specific vintage wine. Since 1988, exclusive designer labels have been dedicated only to wines from the Villero vineyard. This idea came to Alfredo and his friends one winter evening over a glass of wine. Some of the friends were artists, and during the tasting, they were inspired by the color of the wine poured into the glass and decided that these magnificent wines deserved unique labels — labels created by artists. A list of artists was compiled, and the next day what seemed impossible began to take shape. The complete collection of such labels was presented at the Museum of Modern Art in New York! Since the 1990s, Alfredo and Luciana's children have joined the family business. Today, Vietti owns 35 hectares of vineyards. Among other Piedmontese houses, the Vietti winery has gained worldwide fame for the excellent quality of its wines. The Vietti house, as stated by the well-known Italian wine publication Gambero Rosso, "has always been a family winery specializing in the production of various DOC and DOCG wines."
