Interesting facts
Condrieu is one of the most elite regions of world viticulture. The vineyards, located on steep slopes, are difficult to cultivate, resulting in only 50 acres being dedicated to vines in Condrieu today. The grapes for Condrieu "La Galopine" are harvested from three plots — "Vérin", "Saint Cyr" and "Chavanay", located on steep granite slopes overlooking the river, which do not allow the soil to be cultivated mechanically. The harvest is collected by hand and transported to the winery in small boxes. After gentle pressing, the must is fermented at a low temperature (from 16 to 18 °C) in temperature-controlled tanks to enhance the aromatic complexity of the Viognier variety. A small part is vinified in new oak barrels (maximum 20%). After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged on fine lees in contact with air to gain richness and structure, while maintaining its exceptional varietal aroma. Bottling takes place in mid-April of the following year.
About the Manufacturer
The company Delas Freres was founded in 1835 in the heart of northern France, in the Côte-du-Rhône province. After World War II, Delas Freres experienced a real "boom" in popularity in international markets. The wines are sold in barrels in London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Geneva and since 1952 in the USA. In 1960, Michel Delas was known throughout Europe as the head of one of the largest trading houses in the Rhône Valley. In 1977, the Delas Freres company was acquired by the owner of the Deutz champagne house, and in 1993 Delas Freres and Deutz became part of the Roederer Group. Delas Freres cultivates vineyards on steep granite slopes in the most prestigious regions of the northern part of the Rhône Valley. The vineyard area is almost 16,000 hectares. Delas Freres wines embody sophistication and elegance, and have awards for intensity of aroma and excellent value for money.
