Interesting facts
"Querciabella" Chianti Classico is one of the best wines from the "Querciabella" company and the only one with the DOCG category. The wine is made from grapes grown in biodynamic vineyards in Fol, Santa Lucia, and Solatio, located at an altitude of 350-500 meters above sea level. Sangiovese is hand-picked and carefully selected in the vineyard, placed in small 8 kg boxes. At the winery, it is separated from the stems and placed in stainless steel tanks, where it undergoes maceration for 12 days at a controlled temperature. The subsequent malolactic fermentation is followed by aging in French oak barrels from the regions of Allier, Châtillon, Nevers, and Tronçais. For aging, which lasts about 12 months, 10% new and 90% old French barrels are used. The final blend is created through multiple tastings. After bottling, the wine rests in bottles for at least 3 months. Its ideal drinking period is 4-10 years.
About the Manufacturer
The Querciabella winery was founded in Chianti Classico in 1974 by Giuseppe Castiglioni, who previously manufactured and sold steel in Mexico and made a fortune from it. After some time, he decided to return to Italy and fulfill his long-held dream of producing high-quality wines. Year after year, Giuseppe acquired land, developed his own vineyards, built a winery and new cellars. As the estate developed, the quality of the wines improved, receiving increasingly high ratings and positive reviews from experts year after year. Thanks to Giuseppe Castiglioni, Querciabella became one of the leading estates in Tuscany. Today, the Querciabella estate is managed by Giuseppe's son, Sebastiano, who continues his father's traditions. He invests significant resources and efforts into improving wine production to enhance their quality, while clearly understanding that innovative ideas and modern equipment have always been and will always be secondary to the gifts of nature. The estate's philosophy is to create high-quality wines that reflect the richness of the terroir. Since the late 1990s, the Querciabella estate has employed only biodynamic methods of grape cultivation, which positively affect the harmony of the land and the wines produced. Sebastiano Castiglioni fully controls the wine production process: from planting the vines to selecting the material for barrels. Interestingly, Querciabella is the second estate in Chianti Classico to introduce the practice of aging wines in oak barrels.
