The Torres company was founded by Jaime and Miguel Torres in 1870. The Iberian Peninsula, where the family's main vineyards are located, is known for its diverse soils and microclimates, ideal for viticulture. The secrets of winemaking and a love for the land have been passed down through generations in the family. This tradition, innovation, and vision for the future have turned Torres into a renowned company whose products can now be found in over 140 countries worldwide. In 1979, Torres acquired a small winery in Curicó, in Chile's Central Valley, becoming the first foreign company to produce wines from Chilean grapes grown in a unique location at the foot of the Andes volcanoes. The Curicó winery is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, allowing winemakers to carefully control the entire process. Torres was the first winery in Chile to begin using temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation and to age in high-quality French oak barrels. Today, Torres owns over 1300 hectares of vineyards not only in Spain but also on other continents. One of the main priorities of the Torres family is to preserve viticulture culture for future generations. Therefore, Torres pays great attention to ecological issues and their solutions — treating wastewater, actively participating in the preservation and replanting of regional forests, as well as conserving the Bonelli's eagle in Spain and the Andean condor in Chile, investing in research on renewable energy sources (solar panels and wind farms), hybrid vehicles, and studying vineyard and forest biomass exploitation. In January 2007, Wine Enthusiast named Torres "Best European Winery of Europe-2006" for its innovation, commitment to research, and significance in the world of wine and spirits.
