Interesting facts
Clos de Vougeot is a remarkable wine produced from selected grapes grown in the eponymous Grand Cru vineyard. The vineyard is named after the Vouge River, which separates the villages of Vougeot and Chambolle-Musigny. The vineyard covers a total area of 50.6 hectares and is the largest Grand Cru vineyard in Côte de Nuits. The domain's labels were designed by French sculptor Marie-Paul Deville-Chabrol. The finely drawn portraits of young women are imagined by the artist to convey the character of different wines and terroirs. The sketches are done in sanguine (purple-red pencil), the ochre tones of which resemble the color of Burgundy soils. For their creation, Marie-Paul used the family photo archive, so the drawings easily reveal features of women from the Gros family, including Anne-Françoise herself.
About the Manufacturer
The name Anne-Françoise Gros is associated with the noblest wines of Burgundy. The Gros family has been producing wine since the 1830s. The founder of the family business is Alphonse Gros, who acquired the first vineyard in Vosne-Romanée during the French Revolution. In 1988, Anne-Françoise inherited part of the prestigious vineyards in Côte de Nuits from her father. By combining her holdings with a plot of land inherited from her husband, a noble winemaker of the 13th generation, François Paran, Domaine A.-F. Gros today poses serious competition to many prestigious brands in the region. Anne-Françoise Gros is a beautiful woman who appreciates art and fine wines, so she skillfully manages the company, where her brothers Michel and Bernard, who also have their own wineries, work alongside her.
