Interesting facts
"Fleur de Pedesclaux" is the second wine of the Chateau Pedesclaux estate, possessing a clean, well-structured taste and pleasant floral aroma, which is a vivid embodiment of the exceptional characteristics of its unique terroir. The blend of this noble wine consists of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot grapes grown on the estate's vineyards, covering an area of about 50 hectares in the heart of the Pauillac commune. The local cool and moderately humid climate of the region is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. The 35-year-old vines grow in deep soils consisting of Garonne gravel with a limestone subsoil. These soils are poor in nutrients but have good drainage properties, providing the vines access to deeply buried groundwater. As a result, the berries acquire a rich and complex flavor. All the estate's vineyards are cultivated using organic methods, and some areas are also treated with biodynamic methods. The harvest is hand-picked when the fruits reach optimal ripeness. The grapes then undergo careful manual sorting: first by bunches, and then literally berry by berry. The production uses free-run grape juice. The vinification process follows traditional methods, including cold maceration and fermentation. The wine is aged for 16 months in oak barrels, some of which are new. The wine can be stored for at least 10 years.
About the Manufacturer
Chateau Pedesclaux was established in 1810 by Pierre Urbain Pedesclaux, a well-known and respected winemaker in Bordeaux. Gradually, he expanded the estate's boundaries by acquiring several plots in Grand Puy. In 1855, the wines of the Chateau were classified as Fifth Grand Cru Classe (Cinquième Grand Cru Classe), and in 1891, Chateau Pedesclaux was acquired by Count Gastébo. Under the Count, the estate and its cellars were renovated, after which the quality of the wines improved significantly. Today, the Chateau is owned by the Lorenzetti family, and the vineyard area is nearly 50 hectares. The vineyard soils consist of clay, gravel, and limestone, with an average vine age of 35 years, but there are also old vines planted in 1950! In 1991, the winery was upgraded with the latest technology, which changed the vinification process, allowing the estate to create even more elegant wines.
