Interesting facts
The wine "Chateau Potensac" has had a high reputation among connoisseurs for many years. In the 2003 new classification, it was awarded the highest status — Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. Fermentation and maceration of the wine are carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 28 °C for 18 days. Then "Château Potensac" is aged for 12-16 months in oak barrels, half of which are renewed annually, due to which the wine "breathes" better and acquires a more rounded taste. The very commendable 2020 vintage should give pleasure for 12-15 years, but it is recommended to give the wine 3-4 years of additional aging in a cool, humid cellar before that. The wine should be decanted an hour before consumption.
About the Manufacturer
The vineyards of Château Potensac are located on clay-gravel soils in the commune of Ordonnac in the north of the Médoc, and produce wines of a significantly higher class than other vineyards in this part of the Médoc. Primarily, this is due to the severe pruning of the vines, thanks to which they yield tiny harvests of the highest quality grapes. Over the past decades, on the 53 hectares of Château Potensac vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon dominated, accounting for about 60% of the area, while Merlot occupied 25% and Cabernet Franc 15%. However, with the purchase of new Merlot vines, this variety became dominant, and since 2005, the blend of the estate's first wine — "Chateau Potensac" — has been somewhat changed in favor of Merlot.
