Interesting facts

"Chateau Lagrange", 2016 is an exceptional harmony between classic and modernity. The blend of this magnificent wine consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot grapes. The vines are grown on gravel soils that lie on clay-limestone subsoils with some areas containing sand and clay. The vineyards, with vine ages ranging from 20 to 55 years, have a southern exposure. The fermentation process takes place in steel containers for 2-3 weeks. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 20 months in oak barrels (60% new). Every 3 months, the wine is racked off the lees. The wine label illustrates the building of Chateau Lagrange. The 2016 vintage is recommended for tasting between 2023 and 2056.

About the Manufacturer

Chateau Lagrange (Chateau Lagrange) was known in medieval times as the Noble House of Lagrange Montaigne. Records of subsequent owners date back to 1631. In 1824, the total production volume was 120 barrels (12,000 cases). The former Minister of the Interior under King Louis-Philippe, Count Duschâtel, left his mark on the history of the estate and the Medoc region by introducing a drainage system in the vineyard in 1842. The Count also increased the annual production volume to 300 barrels. This was the golden age of Lagrange, and with the creation of the famous classification in 1855, the estate was awarded the title of 3-eme Grand Cru Classe. In the early 20th century, there were few bright events in the history of the Chateau, which was due to the deteriorating economic situation. Despite some changes in the ownership structure of the estate, the harvests became smaller, and the grapes collected did not have good quality. Due to the decline in business, the estate was reduced from 280 hectares in 1840 to 157 hectares in 1983, when the Japanese group Suntory bought it from the Sendoya family, who had owned the estate since 1925. Well acquainted with the world of wine and beverages, the leader in Japan, Suntory, led by President Keizo Saji and Vice President Shin Tori, made a significant contribution to the restoration and improvement of the estate. Marcel Ducasse, who began his work at the estate, directed all efforts to complete the full restoration of the estate, which lasted until May 2007. Thus, after more than 20 years of successful work, Chateau Lagrange is in excellent shape and is known worldwide for producing high-quality wines. The technical director of the estate is the talented oenologist Bruno Einar. The vines planted in 1985 are now in their prime, allowing for the selection of the best grapes. The potential of Chateau Lagrange remains enormous, and its progress is noticeable year after year. The estate is located in the west of the Saint-Julien appellation, in the very heart of the Medoc vineyards. The estate covers an area of 157 hectares, of which 115 hectares are vineyards. Here, varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot are grown, as well as white varieties — Sauvignon, Semillon, Muscadelle (4 hectares). Today, three wines are produced here: the red wine "Chateau Lagrange" of the Saint-Julien appellation is made from old vines (about 35 years), another red wine — "Les Fiefs De Lagrange" is produced from younger vines. And the third is the white wine of the Bordeaux appellation "Les Arums De Lagrange."
