Interesting facts
Domaine Bancalis, "Manhac" Grenache VdF is a dry red wine that captivates with its pure, bright energy and palpable, almost mountainous freshness. This is a true expression of Languedoc. The vineyards are located at the foot of the Black Mountain at an altitude of about 300 meters, where rocky soils and low yields concentrate flavor, laying the foundation for a lively and expressive character. Vinification in concrete vessels only enhances these characteristics. This wine encapsulates the atmosphere of a summer afternoon in southern France, when sun-warmed stones cool from the cool breeze. It is juicy, with rounded yet very lively tannins and a sense of wild, untouched nature. This is the perfect wine for an informal everyday meal.
About the Manufacturer
Located at the foot of the Noir mountain, a few kilometers north of the city of Carcassonne, Domaine de Cazaban spans 22 hectares. The vineyards are grown according to organic farming practices (since 2010). Since 2013, 13 hectares of vineyards have been converted to biodynamics (Demeter certified). The cultivation of the vines is carried out with great care and meticulousness. In addition to wine production, Domaine de Cazaban provides tourism services. The estate features several cozy cottages and a swimming pool. Additionally, wine tastings can be conducted right at the winery. "Chateau Bancalis" is the winemaking project of the enologist of Domaine de Cazaban, Bastien Pereno. Located on 60 hectares in the Languedoc region, just minutes from the medieval citadel of Carcassonne, the vineyard represents a former tenant farm from the 14th century, owned by the lords of Aragon. Bastien grew up surrounded by vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges, one of the most famous wine villages in Burgundy. He studied agronomy at a university in France for 5 years and has since worked in vineyards in France and around the world, producing wine and honing his craft. Bastien met his wife, Paola, while winemaking in Mendoza. There they got married and spent five wonderful years together before returning to France. Their eyes fell on Domaine Bancalis in southern France, as historically this vineyard was very well-known, and its wines received numerous awards in the early 2000s, but over time it fell into decline due to the owner's old age.
