Castel Groupe is the largest owner in the Bordeaux region. The Castel family owns 14 Chateaux in the region. This allows for a diverse range of offerings in terms of terroir and wine character. One of them is Chateau Ferrande, which the Castel family acquired in 1992 after 16 years of leasing. The Chateau's vineyards cover 94 hectares, of which only 5 hectares are used for white grape varieties. The vineyard soils are rich in gravel, sand, and covered with pebbles, providing excellent drainage and redistributing heat well. The estate has a modern winery with new equipment. Mark Maintenat is the captain and director of this estate, striving to create rich and very elegant wines. The unique style of the wines, combined with a constant search for solutions to achieve high quality, has brought Chateau Ferrande worldwide fame and membership in the Bordeaux Grand Cru Union.
About the Manufacturer
The Castel Group was founded by Pierre Castel in 1949 and initially operated exclusively as a negotiant. This line of business is still relevant today, but alongside trading, it has long been engaged in its own winemaking. In terms of wine production volume, Castel Groupe ranks first in France, and its vineyards cover more than 3,000 hectares. The pride of the family business is the wines from the Bordeaux appellation, although they account for only 2% of the total turnover. The first estate acquired by the company was Chateau de Goelane in 1957. This was followed by others, and today the company owns 14 Chateaux in various Bordeaux appellations. All family members are involved in the company's affairs, choosing their favorite estates for this purpose. Thus, the founder of the company, Pierre Castel, preferred the luxurious Chateau Barreyres, his sister Christian manages Chateau d`Arcins, and the second sister Pieretta manages Chateau Hourtou. The younger generation of the family also works and develops the family business, responsible for wine exports or other aspects of the production process. The collective effort and love for the work positively reflect on the quality of the wines produced by the Castel family and beautifully convey the style of the specific appellation.
